The Solution
Anatta's Replatform Blueprint for Enterprise
Grove’s needs had many layers. And in Anatta’s experience, theoretical solutioning quickly becomes unproductive for enterprise brands. To address each need, Anatta developed an enterprise re-platforming strategy across four phases.
Phase 1: Answering the Question, “Can Shopify Meet Enterprise Needs?”
Anatta built a working proof of concept in just two sprints. The POC demonstrated that Grove's complex subscription model, personalized cart experience, and intricate fulfillment logic could thrive on Shopify. The functional prototype replicated Grove's digital experience and set a solid foothold for the full migration.
Phase 2: Architecting a Moonshot Digital Transformation
Following the successful proof of concept, the team began a thorough discovery process with three objectives: build alignment within Grove’s internal leadership team, capture Grove’s needs and existing site features, and map Grove’s current system architecture to inform the new Shopify-centric one.
Strong internal alignment is the difference between a successful digital transformation and a failed one. To secure buy-in, Anatta presented solution vision decks that identified and bridged technology gaps, created a clear understanding of replatform challenges, risks, and opportunities, and converted technology concerns into solvable problems through hands-on prototyping.
Anatta then wrote precise Business Requirements Documentation that captured big-picture business goals and granular technical specifications. The documents, often spanning hundreds of pages, detailed Grove's custom platform features and the rationale for each. Alongside it, Anatta mapped Grove's existing data flows, integration points, customer journey touchpoints, and legacy system dependencies.
Phase 3: Implementing Beyond a Simple Lift and Shift
The Northstar goal was a complete recreation and renovation of Grove’s online retail experience, not a partial lift and shift. The new platform would minimize reliance on Grove’s custom solution and greatly enhance site performance, agility, and time-to-market. The Anatta team:
- Built a middleware layer connecting Shopify with Grove's central operational systems
- Integrated Shopify with Ordergroove for subscription management
- Customized Ordergroove to replicate Grove's unique subscription experience, including predictive cart-filling based on usage patterns
- Connected warehouse management and fulfillment systems
- Implemented inventory allocation systems
- Created expansive API infrastructure

Phase 4: Grove.co, New and Improved
After go-live, Anatta set up Grove’s internal team for continued success with comprehensive documentation of the new architecture, retraining sessions for Grove’s team, post-launch support and optimization, and knowledge transfer to internal development resources.
