The Solution
Anatta Consolidates the Portfolio — and Governs the Build Like the Budget Depends on It
One Platform for Four Properties
Anatta’s first strategic move was ending the fragmentation. The four properties — Gaia, Floradix, Pro, and Retail — were consolidated from their split Shopify and Optimizely footprint into a single, unified platform foundation. One stack to maintain, one set of integrations to govern, one team’s worth of overhead instead of four properties’ worth of friction.
A Growth-Centric Redesign, Built to Educate
Partnering with Gaia’s branding agency, Anatta led the redesign from wireframes through development. The refreshed Gaia brand was translated to an elevated digital experience designed for flexibility.
This wasn’t a solely cosmetic refresh, however. The redesign was growth-centric by mandate: enhanced product discovery and education, a streamlined path to checkout, mobile-first design, and storytelling that connected customers to Gaia’s certified-organic farm and ingredient transparency — the brand’s deepest competitive asset, finally doing conversion work.
Anchoring the strategy was a new knowledge center, architected for both traditional search and AI answer engines. As buyers increasingly ask questions through AI-powered search, Gaia’s decades of herbal expertise were structured to be discoverable, citable, and authoritative. Educational content throughout the Gaia site became a durable acquisition channel.
“Default to Default”: Governance as a Feature
Gaia’s zero-tolerance constraint on scope creep demanded strong program methodology. Anatta’s answer: Default to Default. Native Shopify capabilities first; proven, well-supported apps second; custom code only where differentiation genuinely requires it.
The discipline paid off twice. Every critical Q1 initiative shipped on time and on budget. And Gaia’s new platform carries none of the custom-code debt that quietly accumulates during ambitious builds. A significant number of brands come to Anatta to untangle technology sprawl, so in Anatta’s experience, the cheapest technical debt is the kind never taken on.
Modernizing the Foundation, Sharpening the Experience
Around the redesign, Anatta executed a steady stream of platform and experience upgrades, grouped around three goals:
- Platform stewardship: Migrating Gaia’s four Shopify Scripts to Functions ahead of the platform’s deprecation deadline, while keeping checkout logic future-proof — alongside subscription-integrity safeguards and ADA accessibility improvements that widen reach and reduce risk.
- Confidence-driven conversion: A product comparison module with admin-controlled row ordering that reduces decision fatigue on PDPs and PLPs, TrustScore ratings widgets reinforcing credibility, back-in-stock notifications to capture demand that would otherwise walk, and one-click social sharing for organic discovery.
- A measurement foundation: A full GTM cleanup and GA4 tracking overhaul, with event tracking across navigation, homepage, PLPs, and PDPs, so every future optimization decision rests on numbers the team can trust.
A Launch That Held Through the Storm
Approaching launch, a hurricane struck Gaia’s headquarters. The teams held the line. Anatta absorbed the disruption, adjusting and shipping the new experience without compromising the timeline or the standard. The launch landed, the storm passed, and the partnership continued into post-launch optimization.
